REFLECTIVE JOURNAL WEEK 4

08. 11. 2021- 14.11. 2021

object1: modelling and production
object2: research
object3: thinking

OBJECT1

I worked in the metalworking studio on a model to realise the envisaged structure. I chose Mild Drawn Wire (Copper Coated) in the process, although it was not the right colour for me, it was a stable structure suitable for bending. I learnt the techniques of cutting, bending and welding wire, which may help me in my future modelling. When bending the wire I was unable to keep all the wires at the same bend. If I make a wooden mould in advance, I can keep the wire bent in the same way. If I want a more controlled model for the next step, I can set the length and curvature of each wire ahead of time. I think I need to learn more about mobiles further.

A connection test

This type of connection allows the wire to rotate freely, which I prefer.

Making of suspensions

The use of PET plastic bottles as suspensions as a form of recording. The use of PET plastic bottles as suspensions as a form of recording. By punching holes to record different emotions, the process of hanging up serves as a record of changing emotions.

OBJECT2

Using the keyword Assemblage to search the library for relevant information, I found a number of artists' works and selected Sarah Sze's work ( infinite line )for further research.

“Which scraps she chooses matters less than how she disposes them.( Budick, A. 2012 )”
Sze enhances the resonance of the items she selects. When she pokes a wire through a train ticket, she transforms it into a universal symbol for a trip of reminiscence and evanescent joys. That is why her art appears both fresh and familiar. ( Budick, A. 2012 )

Second-hand shop

I went to a nearby second-hand shop and found lots of interesting everyday items. I plan to go there once a week to pick up a few items to collect and finally put together.

OBJECT3

I found a great looking branch on the side of the road and I was thinking about how these branches would be discarded in the manufacture of wood products. The branches themselves were nice and I wondered if I could use them as a material.
